Next Generation Performers

Closing concert of the 2022 Transparent Sound New Music Festival

Over the years, the youngest composer generation had the opportunity to introduce themselves at the Next Generation concerts, organized in FUGA. This year the series continue under the name Next Generation Performers, where students from the Liszt Academy of Music will showcase new music from the recent (or distant) past. All the selected works form an integral part of the repertoires of their respective instruments, or they are pieces that can be rarely heard at Hungarian concerts.
In the first part of the concert, piano students from the Liszt Academy will play sections from George Crumb’s ambitious Makrokosmos series. The students and the works were invited following last year’s highly successful BMC performance.

The second part is dedicated to the academy’s Woodwind and Brass Department. Students will perform solo pieces and duets written for clarinet, saxophone, harp, or tuba.

Finally, the recently deceased Alvin Lucier’s unique work, I Am Sitting in a Room, which is of paramount importance for the festival as well, will be performed in Hungarian. The main character of the piece, the original composer, will be portrayed by a student from the Liszt Academy’s electronic music media programme.

Curators:
László Borbély, Péter Kiss, Csaba Pálfi, Erzsébet Seleljo, Roland Szentpáli, Andrea Szigetvári (professors of the Liszt Academy of Music), Marcell Dargay, Samu Gryllus and Balázs Horváth (Transparent Sound New Music Festival)

The concert is also part of the VI. TEXTHIBITION Finnish and Hungarian textile artists exhibition’s finissage programme.
